Then it will have done what the politicians in USAlia fear most: proved that people power can actually have an impact on those self-same politicians.
So the first question is, can the politicians really afford to be swayed by the internet on this issue?
The second, and far more important, question if the bills are doomed is, Why the hell isn’t the internet getting together to stop all the other heinous crimes perpetrated by politicians (particularly in the United States right now) by showing them by sheer force of numbers that their terms in office will END at the next election if they don’t pick up their game?
I’m thinking, just off the top of my head, well…
- Legislating to prevent students who are studying interstate from voting in elections
- Invading foreign countries on a whim, and continuing wars for purely economic reasons
- Accepting millions of dollars from corporations to enact legislation favouring those corporations
- Denying basic healthcare to all citizens (residents, while we’re are it)
- Ensuring that rich are barely taxed while the poor bear the brunt
- Not having a minimum living wage rate (I mean, what’s with compulsory tipping? That’s not about rewarding service, that’s about increasing profits for the business owners)
- Continuing to support legislation and practices that are effectively racist and demeaning.
- Putting corporate greed over individual welfare
(Bearing in mind that I am a furriner with ways different to your own, so what would I know?)
Get your gear on, USAlia: this is day one of a war, not an amusing diversion on the road to LOLCATS.
Well said.
